The advance training course on “Natural systems for (waste) water treatment” was conducted at Can Tho University in Vietnam. Students who attended this course will get 3 credits equal 30 hours (lecture and exercises). This course aims at providing an overview of natural and constructed systems that can be used for wastewater and surface water treatment based on aquatic processing units (e.g. systems with microphytes and macrophytes, all or not combined). Besides the role and treatment efficiency of natural systems, major attention is paid to the design of these systems with an emphasis on the state, decision, and control variables. The practical parts are dealing with the design of natural wastewater treatment systems based on certain assumptions. Prof. Peter Goethals and Dr. Long Tuan Ho were the instructors in this course.
